Division by a single digit
We divide to find how many times one number is contained in another number. 12 ÷ 2, for example, means "how many 2's are in 12." The answer is 6. 18 ÷ 6 means "how many 6's are in 18." The answer is 3.

The answer is called the quotient. The sign for division
